About Coach Adamson (NDHS Class of '07)

University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill '11 | D1 Wrestler | 4x State Finalist | 2x State Champion

Coach Jay Adamson leads both NDHS Wrestling and the Irish Wrestling Club. He brings elite technical instruction and a passion for developing wrestlers of all levels—from first-year beginners to state title contenders.

A former Division I wrestler and two-time state champion, Coach Adamson specializes in building confident, aggressive athletes who know how to score points and win tough matches. His technical focus areas include:

  • Neutral: Shot setup and attack chains, including pull singles, high-crotch finishes, outside singles, and cutback finishes that teach wrestlers how to stay offensive and pressure their opponents.

  • Top: A dynamic approach to tilts and leg rides designed to keep opponents on the mat while piling up near-fall points.

  • Bottom: Proven techniques to develop explosiveness and relentlessness from bottom, helping wrestlers create space, get the escape and return to their offense.

  • Strategy: Tournament game planning, in-match decision-making, and mental tools to win close matches when it counts.
