Notre Dame President, Kyle Schmitt, announces Matthew Walker as the school's Athletic Director. Matthew is a Notre Dame alum with a B.S. in Education in Sports Management with a minor in Business Administration (UTK) and an M.Ed. in Sport Leadership (VCU). He has experience as an assistant athletic director and a variety of other experiences working in student life and the business office at Stuart Hall School in Staunton Virginia.
Matthew was one of 10 applicants and one of 4 invited to interview in person with the interview committee composed of myself, Laura Swenson, John Mullin, and Charles Fant. The interview committee achieved a consensus in selecting Matthew because of his many concrete ideas and examples of how he can bring his skills and vision to benefit the NDHS athletics program. His references describe Matthew as "phenomenal" "always brings ideas to the table" "pays attention to details" "won't stop until the job is done" "very organized" "not just skilled but a great person and a team player" and "a great role model for kids". Matthew begins in his role on August 2nd.
In addition to announcing Matthew as our next AD, I am excited to announce that another of our own, Coach Jonathan Adams, will be assuming the title of Director of Athletic Advancement. In this role Jonathan will be partnering with the leadership team in developing and implementing a comprehensive vision and specific plan for athletic program improvements with a near and midterm focus on opportunities for improvements to our athletic facilities.
I am excited about the future of our athletic program with these two announcements and hope that you share that excitement. Go Irish!
