Laura Swenson Named Principal

Sedonna Prater, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Knoxville, announced Laura Swenson as principal of Notre Dame High School. 

Mrs. Swenson joined the Notre Dame High School faculty in 2019 as the Dean of Academic Affairs. During the past two years, she has established herself as a professional educator and earned the respect of the community because of her dedication to serve and meet the needs of each student. Some of Mrs. Swenson’s notable achievements during her time at NDHS include the creation of a peer-tutoring program for students, the organization of the remote learning services, and the establishment of a learning support program for students. In addition, she has prioritized professional development goals for faculty across the curriculum. Her abilities and professional talents make her the desired choice to serve in the role of Principal.

Mrs. Swenson’s talents will greatly benefit NDHS in the new position of Principal. Her advancement will serve the school and assist both Mr. Valadie and Mr. Schmitt during the President transition as this school year concludes and plans are developed for the next school year. Mrs. Swenson will be conferred a certificate in school management and leadership in August from Harvard University. She holds a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in reading and language arts from the University of St. Joseph and a professional educator license in elementary and secondary history and political science. In addition, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson College and attended the University of Surrey in a linguistics and international studies program. As a professional educator with over twenty-five years of experience, she has served schools in various teaching, coaching and administrative roles.
