Bill Chepul Memorial Scholarship

Bill Chepul was a proud father of Notre Dame graduates Evan and Carson Chepul. He lost his battle with brain cancer in July of 2015. During his three-year battle, Bill inspired so many people with his positive attitude and his strong faith in God. He was active in his church and courageously stepped up to take care of his brother when their father suddenly died his freshman year in high school.

Bill’s legacy is a testimony of how to live life to the fullest and to love unconditionally. The strong, outgoing teenager grew up to be a man everyone respected and loved. He was a humble person who never understood the impact he had on so many people.

In remembrance of Bill, the Chepul Family began the Bill Chepul Memorial Scholarship that includes a $1,000 tuition assistance scholarship to assist a current Notre Dame student to complete his or her education at our school that is presented at the annual Underclassmen Award Night.

David & Tina Harr Memorial Scholarship

David Harr was a member of the Class of 2004, who sadly passed away in February of his senior year. It is for him that our Theatre Stage is named. David found true joy and a home on stage and in the Theatre Department. In honor of David Harr, each year, the Harr family recognizes one member of the senior class with a college scholarship from among those in the Theatre Department who submitted essays explaining how theatre has been important to them and how they plan to stay involved in theatre in the future.

Tina Harr is a former parent of Notre Dame, who gave timeless energy and dedication to our school. The Harr family would like to recognize a student each year by bestowing a college scholarship in Tina’s memory to a strong leader who is charismatic, respected, service-oriented, and dependable.

The recipient of this tuition assistance scholarship also places high value on their education and strives for academic excellence. This scholarship not only recognizes a current student for their hard work but also financially assists a current Notre Dame student to complete his or her education at our school and is presented by George Valadie on the annual Underclassmen Awards Day.

James A. Jabaley Scholarship for Community Service

This Scholarship is presented in honor of James Jabaley, who passed away from his battle with cancer, and was a member of the class of 1978 at Notre Dame. Upon his passing his friends began this award and scholarship with the provision that the winner be determined by the vote of the senior class to a student whose primary emphasis is service to the school and the community in the tradition that James’ life modeled. This scholarship is awarded at our annual Class Night.

Martin Francis Wrestling Scholarship

Guy “Martin” Francis, Jr, was a star wrestler for Notre Dame High School who became the first four-time state champion in Tennessee history. His record remained intact for 25 years. He accomplished his feat when there were no divisions or classifications as all schools wrestled in the same classification. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1972.

Martin traveled the world during his career in the Air Force. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he was a member of the Air National Guard. His military service spanned three decades.

Martin passed away in 2022 and was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Knoxville. His love for Notre Dame High School is eternal, and this Scholarship is a fitting tribute to his affection and dedication.

The Martin Francis Notre Dame Alumni Wrestling College Scholarship is awarded to a Notre Dame senior during the annual Class Night award ceremony, who has distinguished himself in wrestling athletic achievement, sportsmanship, and is in good standing academically.

This scholarship is awarded to 1 or 2 students that are in good standing academically, involved in performing service and not just meeting the minimums, and are friendly and supportive of the Notre Dame mission.
